REDDING, CA MINI RALLY 2014

The Redding, California Mini-Rally began on 5-1-14 in hot weather with temperatures in the 90’s but thankfully, after a couple of days the temps cooled down substantially.   Overnight temps ranged in the low 50’s. Nine rigs attended the mini-rally set at the JGW RV Park alongside the Sacramento River.

Two rigs came from British Columbia, five from California, one from Nevada, and one from Oregon. In addition, we were also very fortunate to have Membership Chairwoman Julia Laney, several members from the local area, and two additional Bigfoot rigs (one all the way from Fairbanks, AK) traveling through the area stop to join us for a night.

We opened the rally with a “Meet-N-Greet” on Thursday evening once nearly everyone had arrived and set up. Our guests were provided with literature about the local area and were free to choose from amongst the area attractions, including Turtle Bay Exploration Park, Sundial Bridge, botanical gardens, Shasta Lake, hiking/biking trails, Win River Casino, wineries, amongst others.

On Friday, we found we had sufficient vehicles to transport just about everyone for a day exploring Turtle Bay Exploration Park, Sundial Bridge, and the botanical gardens and then capped the evening with a fabulous potluck dinner in the refreshingly cool meeting room at the RV park. As is typical, we didn’t specify what anyone should bring to the potluck and as typical, we had a very well rounded feast of extraordinary food! We also had a small raffle after dinner. On Saturday, we took advantage of a pre-arranged tour of Shasta Dam, one of the largest in the US. Many of us chose to dine together that evening at Cattlemens Restaurant. Sunday opened with a brunch at Marie Callenders restaurant. Several members then chose to try their hand at Win River Casino. We didn’t hear too much about big winnings!

Each evening brought lively, humorous discussions about life and RVing as we all sat together outside under beautiful night skies in the warm weather.

There was lots of fun, laughter, and good food. There seems to be so much in common amongst Bigfooters; we always have a great time together and leave each other with good memories! We thank our guests for making this another successful BOCI Mini Rally.
